Grounded

What are you known for? Are you humble or conceited? Are you selfless or selfish? Do you recognize those who helped open doors for you? Do you consciously look for ways to make a difference in the lives of others…without them knowing?

I have been blessed with incredible people who helped open doors for me to find my way in life, both professionally and personally. I was once told by one of my most influential mentors: “I can get you to to the plate, but you have to swing.” Even then, he provided me with ‘batting practice’ tips. Coaching me, encouraging me, building confidence in me, and most importantly, keeping me grounded.

He warned me about others who used selfish or unscrupulous strategies to gain attention and status. He said I would encounter and have to deal with their direct attack on me because those who are ‘authentic’ make it obvious when others are ‘fake’; their moments in the sun would be short-lived once others discovered their conceited ways. Ultimately, it is better to not gain something if it is through devious means, but rather to earn something through authentic ambition.

Be authentic in the sense that you have no selfish ambition or conceit. Raise others up without expectation, even if it means you need to work harder. Use your experiences to help others, including your mistakes. As you do these things, you will realize that an inner joy comes to your heart that no one can take away. You see, taking care of one another, especially other Christians, is all part of God’s plan for us.

“And let us not grow weary while doing good, for in due season we shall reap if we do not lose heart. Therefore, as we have opportunity, let us do good to all, especially to those who are of the household of faith.” ‭‭Galatians‬ ‭6:9-10‬ ‭NKJV‬‬
