I was always the one who wanted to lead. As an athlete, I wanted to lead the pack of runners. As a student, I worked hard to earn a top score. As a teacher, I wanted to lead my students to knowledge and teach them to critically thinking. As a parent, I wanted to lead my children to make good decisions and plan ahead.

But, I have to admit…I was not following God as much as I needed to when I was busy striving to lead others. You see, God leads by example, not by mile markers or grades. He does not require us to place first, earn the highest score, or acquire tons of earthly knowledge. He wants to lead us, for us to follow Him and His ways! He is the way to Salvation. We learn patience from Him.

Life is a journey, not a destination. God teaches us what is true and right. Follow God’s lead as you lead others by example, not by expectations!

Prayer time: Dear God, lead me as I follow you. If I am meant to be a leader, let others choose to follow my example as it is a reflection of You! Amen!
