When our children are young, we want them to dream
Of what they want to become and the importance of self-esteem.
Yet, we must teach them to be humble and kind
To have fun yet know that life does not have a rewind.
We teach them good manners, hard work, and self-discipline
That in competition, someone will lose…and someone will win.
Most importantly, we teach them about our values and our faith
About traditions that we hold dear and the Lord’s amazing grace.
But do we teach them resilience and resolve? Restitution and remorse?
About life eternal and Jesus Christ and salvation, of course?
Do we tell them about struggles and fears of the unknown events of the next day?
Do we constantly remind them that “no matter what, Jesus loves you”…so pray?
We must encourage them to stand tall and fight for walking their own path
To make decisions based on God’s Word, not based on mortal minds filled with lust and wrath.
We must pray with them each day about their blessings and their priceless worth
About the pain and suffering with death and the joy of a renewed birth.
We all know that life has a cycle we cannot control
In the end what matters is that we asked Jesus to save our soul.
So, as we ponder what will come of 2021
Let us not forget what we have been promised by God’s only Son.
John 3:16 says “Believe in me and you will have eternal life”
Let us raise our children to know that they can stand up for what is right, no matter the price!
