Stop, Look, and Listen

Even with nowhere to go these days, lots of people are running in circles. Social media is filled with posts, tweets, and videos focused on what we cannot do and where we cannot go.

Just stop!

  • Notice how you stand, how the ground feels beneath your feet. Always stay grounded.
  • Breathe in and out. Again! Take a deep breath and just relax.
  • Gain self awareness. We rarely take the time to stop and breathe, let alone stand still without reason. Start to make this part of your new routine.

Look!

  • Look at what you can actually can accomplish right now. Spend time getting closer to God, reading His Word.
  • Look at who you are today. Are you the best version of yourself? How can you make a difference in this world by starting with yourself? You have a purpose! Find it!

Listen!

  • What do you hear? You cannot hear clearly if you are running in circles or being overwhelmed by social media. Stand still!
  • Listen to what God is trying to tell you. Pray and study Scripture.
  • Seek silence or natural noise. Birds, water, air. Find a way to take in the beauty of God’s Creation.

And most importantly,

“Now therefore, stand and see this great thing which the Lord will do before your eyes.” ~1 Samuel 12:16

In our most difficult moments, God is with us. This is a time of transformation. We just need to stop, look, and listen!

My backstory on the photo:

I took this photograph on a Sunday morning. My husband and children had left, heading to a church service without me. It was a lonely and depressing time for me. I was quite ill and worried about what life would even be like in the future. I felt depressed and I started to cry. I was not well enough to be with my own family worshipping the Lord. Fortunately, I was able to stand up that morning and as I looked out the window, I saw an eagle fly by. I watched it land in a tree not far from our house. I had a camera a few feet away, so I grabbed it to take a photo, and when I looked again, there were two eagles sitting in that tree. They stayed there for at least ten minutes that day.

Standing still was a blessing in that moment. It was all I could accomplish, but I captured a fantastic photo of one of God’s most beautiful creatures. God bless you! Stand still and see what God does!
